I was contacted by Variety - The Children's Charity regarding a Family Photo shoot. Variety is a national not-for-profit organisation helping children in need by giving practical equipment (and programs and experiences) to overcome whatever obstacles they face in order to live their lives to the fullest. Naturally, I was so humbled to be asked to photograph one of the Families they have helped, and I absolutely loved getting to know Josh and his family.
Six year old Josh suffers from a mobility disability - this affects his muscles and joints, meaning that he can dislocate joints easily, roll his ankle just walking in the backyard, fall over and injure himself regularly due to loss of control of his joints and muscles and can even struggle to talk when fatigued.
Variety donated a Ottobock Skippi Powered Wheelchair to Josh - which he has named 'The Silver Bullet'. Six months has passed since receiving the 'Silver Bullet', and Josh is motoring through his days more easily and independently. He enjoys pretending he is Superman, playing with his wonderful big brother Scott, swinging at the local park and letting his imagination run wild with his model trains and miniature cars.
I arrived at their house where Josh & Scott were playing together, then we all took a walk to the park for some family photos. Josh is so comfortable in his 'Silver Bullet', and it was amazing to see just how much easier it has made his days - leaving more energy for the important things in life.
It was an extra special day for Josh's parents as it was their 10th Wedding Anniversary. :)
