SUMMARY 2018 - 2019
Remy is a very active and social child. He participates in ballet for three classes per week; one of these classes he assists his teacher with a toddler class. He helps guide the younger children and is friendly to all, he makes everyone feel included and comfortable. Every Tuesday he has a private violin lesson, following this violin lesson he plays with another home-schooled friend (also 6yrs) and is often joined by other families. He participates in Poetry Tea Time with this group – actively listens to the poetry and engages with other children and their parents. Wednesday and Saturdays, Remy has League training and a football game. He has been described by his coaches as an ‘enthusiastic team player’. Each Thursday Remy participates in an Orchestra Group (Cootamundra Strings) at our local Arts Centre with about 12 other String players (ages ranging from 6 to 16). At the end of each term he participates in the Orchestra Performance for parents and family. The Orchestra have completed performances at two local primary schools, the town library and for two functions at Cootamundra's local Arts Centre. He fills his time in and around these scheduled weekly activities by playing with his siblings and friends, drawing and painting, bouncing on the trampoline, visiting the library, reading books, listening to books, watching movies, playing with his dogs, completing tasks on study ladder, creating Artventure's, playing board games, making paper planes, visiting family, going to parties, making cards, feeding his pet Blue Tongue Lizard, doing experiments, riding his bike / scooter / skate boards, climbing trees, building with magnatiles / duplo / lego, making stop motion movies, riding his motorbike, singing, dancing, helping around the house, and cooking. This year he has also helped out on a friend's farm with marking, crutching and shearing sheep. He has visited museums and zoos. He has helped out at his Dad's new work opening where he welcomed the staff, explained the facilities and made ice creams for everyone. He has had so much growth in this past year, and it is such a pleasure to watch him love and enjoy learning through all he does. He crosses all learning groups (English / Maths / Science / History / Geography / Art / PDHPE) each week, month and term, he has great general knowledge of these areas, is a very sound communicator and an interested learner.

MATHS RESOURCES:
Study ladder, Singapore Maths workbook, Geo shapes, sudoku puzzles, magnatiles, music, art, dice, geometry set, card games, memory, monopoly, Lego
MATHS OUTCOMES ACHIEVED:
Remy actively uses study ladder and works through tasks smoothly. He enjoys discussing additions and subtractions and estimating. He sorts and makes patterns using shape tiles. He has a dice he regularly plays games with. He has a geometry set he explores often, and he enjoys counting money in real life and in games, e.g. monopoly. He helps with weekly groceries and identifies length and volume and compares objects (fruit / veggies), etc. He plays with Duplo and Lego daily. He cuts fruit into halves / quarters / eighths. He has sound understanding of 2D and 3D shapes through creating with magnatiles. He knows the order of days in the week and can tell the time to the hour. Through dancing and violin, he understands pattern and counting in groups. He often has the tape measure out to measure and compare objects. He tracks his pet Blue Tongue Lizards weight. His practical understanding of everyday mathematics is sound. He needs some improvement in writing / printing numerals; however, this will come with practice (he often writes numbers on pathway in chalk).

SCIENCE RESOURCES:
Study Ladder, lots of free time to explore and observe Nature, pet Blue Tongue Lizard, KiwiCo. Crates, Library, Canberra Dinosaur Museum, Eden Whale Museum, Oak Vale Farm in the Hunter Valley, Bird Watching in Wonboyn (known for its native Bird life)
SCIENCE OUTCOMES ACHIEVED
Remy has a good understanding of the Natural and Made Environment. He spends a lot of his time outside observing and questioning. He is lucky enough to experience a lot of nature through living next to a paddock of cows and observing their connections (Bull, Heifer, Calves). He has friends who farm sheep and has spent days with them crutching, marking and sheering. He observes birds and collects feathers. We have had great experiences and discussions on Reptiles with having six snakes at our house over the summer. He has a pet baby blue tongue lizard and often weighs and observes his movements. We watch David Attenborough’s Blue Planet / Our Planet which always results in further discussion and education. Remy loves conducting science experiments, he often makes volcanoes with bicarb and vinegar, and he often makes predictions about his experiments, and then reflects on what happened. We have an easily accessible nature table in our house with things he has collected: shells, feathers, rocks, pinecones, dried out lizards, eggs, cicadas, nests, and a brown snake skin. He uses the activities in Kiwico. Crates and study ladder to further meet any outcome requirements of science.

- All stories following have been scribed by Sarah for Remy as he talks -
Remy + The Mandarin Adventure
Once upon a time there was a person named Remy Burch; he wanted to explore every forest, and then one day he found lemonade on a table made from Rocks. He burped out a mandarin seed from the lemonade and it grew bigger and bigger and bigger until it was bigger than his Mum and Dad. It was even bigger than a house. He started to nibble through the juicy mandarin, and he did another burp.
After he had eaten the entire mandarin, he went for another walk burping out mandarin seeds along the way. He came across a watermelon, bigger than a microwave. He got his sharp knife out of his pocket, it’s like a sword. He sliced through the watermelon.
As soon as he finished eating the entire watermelon, he walked away, and he found himself in a beautiful forest. He walked onto an island, he found a scooter and as soon as he found the scooter it was time for him to go home. He rode the scooter all the way. He walked from the forest to a taxi rank and got a taxi from Wagga to Cootamundra. The taxi stopped right at the start of Cootamundra and then he rode his scooter all the way home.
The End.

September 2018 - Narration after morning time
Mrs Frisby and the Rats of Nimh
Timothy was bitten by a spider when he was little. Mr Ages, The Doctor, said it wasn’t a black widow. Timothy is so sick, when he looks at his Mum, he looks straight past her. Mrs Frisby went to the Doctors house for Timothy. The Doctor gave her medicine for him – he is to take the first one today, the second in the morning, and the third the morning after. The Doctor said to “Keep him warm”.
Blinky Bill
The wombat was sleeping in his chair and didn’t even notice Blinky Bill was there. Blinky put wattle up his nose and the wombat sneezed ‘aaa choo!’. Blinky ran away and the wombat fell into the thorny bushes and yelled “Blinky, I know that was you”. Blinky ran away and said “Sorry, it wasn’t, it was an accident. I thought you were a human vase”.
Questions and learning together October 2018
Why are there more insects in Sumemer? Are Scientists right every time?
*Insects are POIKOLOTHERMS (cold blooded). Their internal temp is affected by outside temps.
*Humans are HOMEOTHERMS (warm blooded). We keep our internal temps constant and aren’t usually affected by outside temps.
*Butterflies can’t fly if it’s not hot enough
*Crickets: count the number of chirps in 8 seconds, add 5 to calculate the outside temperature in Celsius.
*H2o is water

I have a secret pet bird and it just pooed on my leg. Its name is Violet Bird. Naughty Violet bird. He poos the same as yogurt because he only likes to eat yoghurt. And every time he poo’s it goes plop the same as yoghurt. He comes out in the night time, I let him out in the night. I have a little hook around his beak so he doesn’t wake everyone up and I let him flap around on his lead so he can walk around the house.
I won’t tell you where his secret hideout is. You can’t tell anyone. Only I can. It’s one of the birds we have at Wonboyn.

Cowgirl Hat

Cowgirl Hat Cowgirl Hat
This is a poem about a Cowgirl Hat
So, one day
There was a cow girl
She loved her cowgirl hats
She wore them East
She wore them West
She didn’t know which one she liked the best
Why don’t you wear all of them?
Yeah, put this one here,
Yeah, that one there
Cowgirl hats up everywhere.
Buy yourself a new horse
Be careful of that low bridge
‘BOOM’… “Ahhhhhh”

“I thought it was a Christmas Beetle. By the time I called out “Mum, Mum”, I noticed it was shining and that it definitely was a Christmas Beetle. Its furry legs clawed onto my hand. We built him a habitat out of sticks, bark and gum leaves. We also covered the container with soil. We named him Chrisby, The Christmas Beetle.”

This is the story of how the birds got their colours. Illustartions and words by Remy Burch. Written down by his Mum.
Once there was a black bird. All the birds were black in the olden days. One of the birds saw a sharp twig with a worm near it. He went to fly over the worm. Instead of landing on the worm, he landed on the twig and he bled out for a couple of weeks.
He was dying. All the other birds flew to him and said, ‘are you ok?’. Except for Black Crow.
One time a black parrot flew over with his sharp beak and pecked the black birds sore. All of the colours shot out of his wound like a rainbow onto all of the black birds. Except for Black Crow who was just watching and waiting.
And that’s how all the Birds got their colours. The Black Bird said ‘thank you’ to the parrot whose feathers were every colour of the rainbow.
The End.

Pretty Sir; The Ballet Dancing Dog
By Remy Burch
When I look past the trees and up at the sky, I see Pretty Sir; The Ballet Dancing Dog. First, it’s just a fluffy cloud and then, all of a sudden, the cloud looks like Pretty Sir. I watch the cloud form into a dog shape with pointed paws like a ballerina. It puts one paw up, the other down, stands up on its back paws and turns around. Pretty Sir dances all over the sky. I feel dancy watching Pretty Sir.
A plane goes past Pretty Sir and it catches my eye and I follow it. I look back for Pretty Sir and he is gone. The clouds are normal again. And I run off to play.

March Summary: Remy watched a Stop Motion tutorial on JAM and then built his own lego scene and has done about twenty different movies. Louie has helped him and Remy has showed patience and clear communication to make it work together. They also giggled a lot. He has asked Luke to do additions with him: 10 plus __ - Remy is quick to see a pattern. His ballet is going well and he follows direction easily and his coordination is very natural. Drama is a lot of fun for him and their group will work towards a performance next Friday. He asked about oxygen yesterday – question led to question which evolved into a discussion about the atmosphere and trees and what fuels humans and life on earth. His violin is improving. He is quick to practice each morning and he loves Orchestra. Each Thursday he has Orchestra and afterwards they all play handball in the carpark – ages 17yrs down to Remy. He loves it and looks up to the big boys. He has been watching Avengers movies and types in his own searches. I was in hospital this week and he wrote me a ‘Get well, I love you’ card. He needs a bit of attention and help with being a team member in our family and cleaning up, etc. He went to work with Luke on Tuesday and was very polite and spoke clearly to everyone. Remy has great communication skills. He is so enthusiastic for football and had his second training session this week. Loves tackling and running fast.
